» Elsie Quilts

Lots of snow outside means lots of time inside to get a few things done. Here are three.

First is another charity for Basically Babies. "Monkeying around with a Giraffe" is just a simple panel. The dark binding set it off. I quilted it with a panto called "Amour" with big swirly hearts.

This "Blue-Green Blends" uses the same panto. It is a lap quilt size and still, I have more blue scraps. They must multiply in the night when I'm not looking!

The color in this photo is way off. It is very blue and green, a tiny ...

Trip Around the World Quilt + Free Pattern from A Little Bit Biased

I loved the backing fabric from my Dawn's Delight quilt so much that I immediately wanted to use the leftovers in another quilt.  It's the black floral fabric I circled below and the biggest square I could cut from the leftovers was 4".  So what's a pattern that you can basically use any size square for?  The classic Trip Around the World pattern!  I had never made one but now I'm obsessed and would love to make more!

I mocked up a Trip Around the World quilt with my Electric Quilt software and asked a friend ...

Dawn's Delight Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

Hello!  Today I am sharing a recent quilt finish that I made just for fun!

But first I want to share with you the inspiration behind this project.  This color palette was inspired by someone I follow on Instagram named Jerina (her Instagram handle is @quiet.sanctuary).  She is a beautiful soul who shares her heart in every post!  She shares her love of crochet, quilts, antiques, family and sourdough bread!  Plus, she is an amazing photographer and writer.

[The above photo is shared with permission from Jerina @quiet.sanctuary.]

I think the above photo might be the exact photo ...

Friendship Star Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

Hello!  In December I shared a cutting chart + instructions for the Friendship Star quilt block in 6 different sizes.  Today I want to share with you the finished quilt that prompted that post.

A few months ago in my local quilt group, we had a member who fell and broke both of her wrists.  Some of us in the group thought it would be nice to make her a quilt to show her a little extra love during that difficult time.  We decided to use the simple, classic Friendship block because of its name and we asked everyone who wanted ...

Scrappy Brick Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

 Good morning!
I have another scrap-buster quilt
to share with you today.

It's a brick-style quilt.  Have you made one of those before?
It was my first time doing one and you can't
get any easier than this pattern right here!

I was using up scraps leftover from my Kaleidoscope quilt
which you can see HERE.  I ended up cutting some more rectangles
from my stash and scraps to make it a little bigger though.

I cut 3" x 9" for the main rectangles and 3" x 4-3/4" rectangles for the half-rectangles.
The finished size of this ...

Scrap Happy Quilt Tutorial from A Little Bit Biased

This next project I want to share with you is such a great scrapbuster!
I saw a quilt like it at my friend's mother's house and knew it would be such a fun project
so I just had to make one too!

Here's a brief description of how to make this beginner-friendly quilt:

1. Gather a bunch of 4-1/2" wide scraps (they can be any length you want).
I cut mine anywhere from 1-1/2" to about 5-6" in length.

2. Sew them into one long strip.  Press the seam allowances open.

3. Cut that strip ...

Sewing poetry from Zarkadia Quilts

Poetry, well I was never a fan, until I met my husband. The current project was inspired by a poem of Christos Laskaris, (that translates as) “Simply a Surface”. I imagined handquilting the whole poem on the project, and I did.

This project was part of a group prompt (Pani me Pani – FB Group, with the guidance of Anna Kazakou), to create a work of patchwork inspired by poetry. The project began on February 2021 and it was finished a month later. Finally, after all the participants finished with their work, an exhibition was held to showcase all the wonderful ...

Hello, hello!  I finally got some pictures of my
finished Positive Vibes quilt that I want to share with you today!

I got her quilted a while ago but I am so slow at binding these days
and I'm even slower at getting pictures!

I designed this pattern to go along with my recent fabric collection
with Poppie Cotton called Treasured Threads.  The little rectangles in it
remind me of stitching.

It's fat-quarter-friendly and the pattern comes
with instructions for 2 size options - baby and throw.

I hosted a quilt-along for it in March and April of this ...

Scrappy square quilt, a patchwork of whimsy from Zarkadia Quilts

Quilting has an enchanting way of weaving together stories and memories through fabric and thread. Among the different explorations of techniques, sometimes a quilter needs to juct piece squares and get rid off regretful thoughts. The Scrappy Square quilt stands out as a delightful celebration of non-creativity and mindless piecing.

Scrappy Square quilts are a testament to the beauty that emerges when disparate fabric scraps unite in harmony. These quilts are a celebration of resourcefulness, as they allow quilters to breathe new life into leftover fabric pieces, vintage textiles, and treasured remnants from past projects. Blossoms and Buds - Emily Belle Version from A Little Bit Biased

 Good morning!
I've been wanting to share this quilt with you
for a while now; I finished it back in
September of 2022, I think.

I love this quilt because
A. It's a classic design
B. It's scrappy
C. It uses lots of my favorite fabrics from my stash
and
D. The Baptist Fan quilting gives it a very vintage vibe.

This is the original version:

It's the Blossoms and Buds
pattern from my book,

It's amazing how different this
version looks compared to the orange version!

In the orange version
the ...

Sapporo coat, the serious one from Zarkadia Quilts

Another quilt coat, and I do hope not the last one, was finished in 2021, but as usual, I don’t get to post about it until 2023. Let’s say that this is another story of procrastination, but not for this blog.

The process behind the making-of this quilt coat was again the 100 day project. So, I will tell you some story behind it.

The 100 day project

In covid year 2020, in midst of a quarantine, and specifically on April 1st, started the 100 day project, that is hosted every year by Lindsay Jean Thomson.

In order ...

Another Chunky Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been so busy working on my donation quilt project, I forgot to share anther quilt I made using my Scrap Mixology Chunky block.

This quilt just makes me dream of summertime and picnics.

I did pull a background fabric out of my stash and use the same fabric for the white centers.

The blocks are all made from various chunky prints I had in my scrap bins.  The lime striped fabric really pulled them all together.

I put an amazing orange floral I got from Connecting Threads on the back.

My Scrap Mixology patterns are each focused on ...
